The year 2024 marks the 41st anniversary of the sister city relationship between Xiamen and Sasebao of Japan. It is also the 19th anniversary of exchanges and cooperation between XMUT and the National Institute of Technology, Sasebo College (NITS). To implement Xi Jinping's thoughts on diplomacy well and promote the exchange and cooperation between internationally friendly cities, a delegation led by faculty member Lin Lihua with eight students of the Japanese Program and Chinese International Education Program from the School of International Languages traveled to Japan to participate in the cultural exchange event held by NITS from July 16th to 30th.
Dr. Sadayuki Shimoda, Principal of NITS, met with the XMUT delegation. He praised the sustained exchanges between the two universities and expressed his expectations for sustained and deepened exchanges between the youth of the two universities. During the two-week visit, the delegation experienced Japanese cultural events of ikebana (flower arranging art) and kendo (sword way), attended several Japanese study lectures, and made graphic and textual presentations to NITS students showcasing the traditional culture of Xiamen and its contemporary urban growth, taking the environmentally friendly harness of the Yundang Lake pollution as an example to show Xiamen’s successful practice of Xi Jinping's thoughts on ecological civilization, and they shared the colorful and enabling life of XMUT.
The delegation was also invited to visit the Sasebo City Government and received by Sasebo Mayor Daisuke Miyajima with a cordial talk about the friendship between XMUT and NITS, and between Xiamen and Sasebo. Sasebo North Rotary Club provided assistance to XMUT delegation during their stay in Japan, and the Club President Shinki Kimon received the Chinese visitors and had a hearty talk with them. Finally, Nagasaki Daily followed and reported throughout the entire process on this good-will exchange between the youth of the two sister cities.
